Book of the Month – August 2017 – Guitar Aerobics by Troy Nelson
This months book of the month is all about guitar technique, 52 weeks of it actually! There are only a few books I would recommend to supplement lessons and guitar studies and Guitar Aerobics by Troy Nelson is one of them.
A former editor of Guitar One magazine (now Guitar World), he’s put together a daily dose of vitamins to keep your chops fine tuned for a full 52 weeks, one short exercise per day a week. The guitar exercises cover a variety of musical styles and focus on the key guitar techniques of alternate picking, arpeggios, sweep picking, string skipping, legato, string bending, and rhythm guitar. These exercises will help to improve your speed and dexterity and pick- and fret-hand accuracy the more you practice them.
Set out with short, concise daily exercises for each day of the week from Monday to Sunday, along with audio tracks, demos and drum metronomes, guitarists at any level can incorporate these short exercises into a daily practice schedule.
I love this book and often grab a week here and there just to spice things up in my practice space. Pick up a copy and challenge yourself to a lick per day for the next year!
