‘Guitar Man’ by Will Hodgkinson
The Guitar is central to popular music and this months Book of the Month explores that theme through the experiences of an adult beginner player.
Will Hodgkinson, in his book Guitar Man, takes a journey into the world of guitar playing to find out why it has such an appeal and hopefully along the way, learn to play. He chats to famous guitar players such as Bert Jansch, British guitar hero Johnny Marr, Roger McGuinn of the Byrds and folk legend Davey Graham to get their views and perspectives, as well as heading to the deep southern States to explore the spirit of Robert Johnson and Mississippi blues.
All the while facing his own personal (and shared) struggles and triumphs in learning to play and express himself musically on the guitar.
Described as gloriously readable, highly amusing and hugely informative, Guitar Man goes on my Book of the Month reading list, thoroughly enjoyed it cover to cover!
